TAXES

When you apply for your tax card for the first time, you have two options on how to do that. Either you fill out a form on skat.dk (below), or you can call the SKAT office where they help you with creating the tax card on the phone.
As a student entitled for SU, you need to be aware of the fact that in Denmark, there are 2 types of tax cards.
A-kort (frikort) → here you pay 8% of the whole amount, and pay taxes on the amount exceeding your tax exemption.
B-kort → "The main card", the tax depends on how much money you earn but as a student, you will pay between 37% - 39% taxes.
If you do not create a tax card, you will be automatically charged 55% tax on your income.

In Denmark everyone is allowed to earn a certain amount of money annually, without having to pay tax. On SKAT's homepage you can see how much you are allowed to earn before having to pay tax on your tax exemption card. This is only relevant if you are going to have a job, besides your studies.
When you have applied for the CPR and NemID, and have received both, you can apply for a Frikort (tax exemption card). To do that, follow the list below:
Enter https://www.tastselv.skat.dk and log in with your E-tax password or NemID.
Go under the section Forskudsopgørelse (Preliminary income assessment). If it does not say Frikortsbeløb (tax exemption card) on your preliminary income assessment, go to Oftest tilføjede felter (Frequently added fields), select Nyt job (new job) and enter the income you expect to earn for the year in field 201 - Lønindkomst etc. (Earned income etc.).
Select Beregn (Calculate) at the bottom of the page and check that your figures are correct.
Select Godkend (Accept), and your tax exemption card has now been created.
Select Tastselv-menu (E-tax menu) and check that your email and contact information are correct. If not, select Ret kontaktoplysninger (Change contact information) under your name and fill it out.
